You are most likely used to observing and learning about biomechanics in an open chain environment, that is to say with the human body neither engaged with nor interacting with the ground. Essentially anatomy lying down.
What we know at AiM is that things can change when we are upright and in motion; and it changes by creating organised movement arrangements of your joints and structures which ultimately help us to make sense of the muscles and the role they play in movement too. This programme highlights the anatomical inter-relationships of your joint structures that your body would ideally have access to in order to explore and enjoy optimal and efficient movement in your lower limb and even create a framework to liberate your whole body. The more efficient your base, the more balanced may be the spine.
In this course Gary introduces you to his five Big Rules of motion, the planes of motion he uses to observe the closed chain biomechanics of the hip and pelvis, before overlaying the muscles so that you can appreciate the role that muscles play in human movement - all is not as it first may seem!
Gary then works his way down to the knee, bringing in the knee muscles before getting down to his favourite subject - the foot, the foot joints and the corresponding soft tissue, which then enables us to work back up the body via the knee, filling in necessary gaps as work our way all the way back up to the pelvis to describe two very distinct structures - a pronating leg & a supinating leg.
These two overlooked shapes have huge bearing over the rest of the human body. The integrated interaction of the foot and leg bones come together to form movements with which we can both observe movement of the lower limb in an upright pattern and 'input' movement in a bid to get the structures of the foot, ankle and leg to function optimally once again.
The AiM wedge makes an appearance as Gary educates you on the value of the wedge, what we use it for and how we use it to optimise the movements that our lower limbs crave so much. Wedges can be purchased in the first chapter of the course.
Discover the transformative power of observing the human body in motion, break down each phase of the gait cycle, and embark on a 100-day challenge that will propel you towards movement mastery.
This course includes 9 chapters, 62 videos and 9 PDF support manuals. To complete your package, there is an exam with 100% pass requirement to earn your certificate and subsequent CPD points for your awarding body.
By the end of the course you will have a different appreciation for muscles, a new way of looking at muscles and new ways of considering, exploring and working with the anatomy of the lower limb.
Ultimately this is an introduction to the AiM philosophy, a way of thinking about anatomy and even working with the anatomy.

Unless we are self motivated and independent learners, it can stop us from being with a problem to truly begin to understand it. Do you remember the time when you purchased a textbook to learn from and you were not able to reach out to the author to ask for help? What did you do?
You became resourceful and started to look for ways to get the information you needed to answer your own questions…That was and still is, in our opinion, the real gift of learning…the ability to answer questions by understanding more rather than having the questions answered without really understanding what the answer is or means.
This has been a cornerstone of the teaching in AIM and will remain there whether it is in person or online. We want you to use your body to find the answer… it is not always easy, it is not always fun, but if it leads to better understanding, then we see it as worth the time, challenge and effort.
